Context

Overview

Nowadays, more and more people become interested in cryptocurrency. A 2021 survey by Mastercard found that 4 in 10 people plan to use cryptocurrency in the next year.

The Problem & Goal

There is a lack of a centralized, reliable source of information for new users who want to learn more about cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.

My goal was to create a comprehensive and user-friendly platform that provides users with the information and resources they need to navigate the complex and ever-changing cryptocurrency market.

Challenge

In the early versions, my academy page consisted of different materials, webinars and articles, which left users confused about where to start.

Even if they decide to explore more, the knowledge they gained was unstructured and not easily applicable later on.

Restructuring the material

After that I decided to completely change the approach. I implemented the idea of a mini-course, where people can follow Cherry, helpful assistant and self-made cryptocurrency expert.

This way users had a guide who not only explained the basics of cryptocurrency, but also how beneficial it is and how can they apply this knowledge in in their own lives.

Phase 1: Understanding the User

Through unmoderated study, I discovered that new users of cryptocurrencies had difficulty understanding the complex concepts involved, and even if they are interested, they don’t know how to start.

As a result, I made sure to prioritize a clear and intuitive user interface, up-to-date market data, and access to educational resources in my design strategy. These changes were made to ensure that the website was accessible and user-friendly for all users, regardless of their level of experience.

User Persona: Meet Sarah

Sarah's User Journey

I created a user journey map to clarify the thinking process, emotions and possible challenges of the person, who is using a cryptocurrency website.

Competitive audit

My next goal was to analyze trends, best practices, strengths, and weaknesses in the cryptocurrency market. By comparing a range of well-known and smaller cryptocurrency websites, I was able to identify key areas for improvement and develop strategies to meet the needs of the users.

Phase 2: Starting the Design

          Building a sitemap

Once I had a clear understanding of the content requirements, I organized the information into a logical and user-friendly structure. My goal was to create a comprehensive information architecture, where users could find all of the instructions and education materials needed.

 Paper wireframes

By starting with simple sketches, I was able to explore a variety of design solutions before moving on to more detailed digital designs.

It is a valuable tool in my design process, because it allows me to quickly prototype and refine ideas before moving on to more detailed stages.

Digital wireframes

Low-fidelity prototype

To prepare for usability testing, I created a low-fidelity prototype that connected the user flow of applying for a job and also accessing website’s and dedicated app’s resources. After finishing digital wireframes, I created a prototype, which I tested with different users. The main flow consisted of registration process, buying cryptocurrency and accessing learning resources.

Phase 3: Test & Refine

Refining the design

After feedback, I changed the names of the buttons. “Trade” sounds like something risky and discouraging for inexperienced users.

Refined part of verification process

Signing up, registering and buying cryptocurrency is not an easy process and takes time. I ensured I can save time of the users and eliminate unnecessary steps.

Responsive design

To make the cryptocurrency website easy to use for everyone, I made sure it worked well on all types of devices by using a responsive design approach.

The Result

Impact

Feedback from users during testing suggests that the design changes have improved usability and made the cryptocurrency website more accessible to a wider range of users. As one study participant put it, “The redesign makes it much easier for me to navigate and understand the cryptocurrency market. I feel more confident about investing now.”

What I learned

The cryptocurrency market is constantly evolving, with new cryptocurrencies and market trends emerging regularly. A cryptocurrency website should be designed to provide users with up-to-date market data, news, and trends, and should be flexible enough to adapt to changes in the market over time.

What comes next?

  • Continue user testing and refinement of the design, based on user feedback and analytics data.
  • Ongoing efforts to improve security measures and build trust with users
  • Ensure that the cryptocurrency website remains a valuable resource for users and continues to drive adoption and investment in cryptocurrencies.
